Elon Musk’s satellite internet service announced its willingness to provide free internet access to users in Venezuela, both active and inactive subscribers, until February 3, 2026. This complimentary service was introduced following the United States’ attack on Venezuela and the announcement of the arrest of President Nicolás Maduro.
Free internet access is automatically available to active subscribers. Meanwhile, inactive users—whether they paused their service or missed payments—must reactivate their accounts during the period to enjoy the free service. For those who already own Starlink devices, they can choose the Roam plan to use the service in Venezuela. This plan is designed for users with high mobility or those who frequently travel.
The Roam plan comes in two options. First, Roam 50GB, which provides 50 GB of internet quota with the option to purchase additional data per GB. Second, Roam Unlimited, which offers internet access with no data cap.
In a post on X, Elon Musk shared a message regarding the free Starlink service for Venezuelans, stating, “In support of the people of Venezuela.” This is not the first time Starlink has provided internet assistance in conflict areas. Venezuela follows other regions that previously received similar support. In 2022, Starlink offered free internet access in Ukraine in response to the Russian invasion to maintain connectivity during the crisis. A similar policy was also implemented in Gaza in 2023 during a telecommunications blackout, where Starlink provided free access and expressed support for recognized international aid organizations operating in the region.
The United States began launching attacks on Venezuela in December 2025. The first strike reportedly occurred on December 29, 2025, targeting dock areas. The arrest of President Nicolás Maduro and his wife was linked to allegations of facilitating drug trafficking and criminal groups entering the United States. As a result, U.S. President Donald Trump took firm action following the arrest.
The Maduro government has frequently imposed internet shutdowns during periods of political unrest in Venezuela. In such conditions, Starlink’s presence opens opportunities for non-government actors to continue providing internet access, especially in areas under strict government control.
